People who love words, who love the world of words, understand the desire to discover (and rediscover) the places we’d forgotten about – not as picturesque views seen through car windows or photographs on wall calendars but as a moving, growing encyclopaedia under our feet. Our vocabulary is so much bigger when we step off the road. Look at the colours we have named in reference to Nature – fuchsia, aquamarine, almond, lavender, rose pink, chestnut, cornflower blue, moss green (I could go on). A huge and shifting palette; every day it changes, tints and hues responding to the diluting of the rain and the bleaching of the sun. pg. 99 Run Wild by Boff Whalley (Simon & Schuster UK Ltd 978-1-47111-061-0)

ps. my current favourite is conker brown!
