Although we were only visiting the boat for an overnight stay we packed a lot into our day in Oxfordshire; given that time away from our young family is rare, we like to take full advantage of the break from routine.

This time we headed across to the antique centre in Deddington for some stress-free window shopping – something that’d be impossible with the kids, and then had a leisurely late lunch in the Great Western Arms at Aynho Wharf.

It’s a wonderful place.

We had an excellent pint of Hooky, a generous and fresh cooked meal and the ambiance was just right.

Excellent all round!

I’d certainly recommend the pub without reservation. It’s great to see a relatively remote country pub beating the gloom of recession and buzzing with satisfied customers midweek.

ps. sorry about the ‘feature image’ for todays post, for some quirky reason it’s refused to load the right way around!
