This weekend saw the IWA Canal Cavalcade 2014 held around Browning’s Pool in Little Venice, Paddington, London.
It’s all a bit of a party, with flag bedecked boats, fairground rides, stalls and canal-side entertainment all taking place below the Westway Overpass and the teeming streets of London.
Although as a family, we didn’t make the daytime events this year, I did find time on the Sunday evening to sneak down to view one of my favourite parts of the weekend, the parade of illuminated boats.
As usual, despite the chill, it pulled in a good crowd who watched the decorated boats glide in stately fashion through the darkening gloom of the pool to loud cheers and applause.
And again, as every year, I resolved that we’ll bring our Eileen south for a season or two and perhaps take part in this event ourselves… I could really see our lit up entry to the pool to the strains of Dexy’s Midnight Runners and ‘Come On Eileen!’.
