‘Wave the Flag…’ has been a favourite bedtime read for the Boys for the past few years, a rhythmic and heart-warming railway adventure, we still wheel it out every now and then and (all three of us) happily drift away into a simpler, wonderful world of steam trains, picnics and Summer days…

Ronda Armitage’s (of The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch fame) book is a simple story of Tom and Grandpa’s day out by train to Blueberry Hill and the various adventures they had on the way…

Whilst the story is a delight, for me it’s Andrew Gordon’s illustrations that steal the show. They speak of innocence and joy and coherence. Enjoy the illustrations, a few of which are reproduced below, but better still get out to your nearest bookshop a buy a copy for yourself, you’ll not regret it!
